I second the motion that House Majority Leader Tom DeLay is a whack job. Why the opprobrium thrown at DeLay now? Well, try this on for size:
"We've got Justice Kennedy writing decisions based upon international law, not the Constitution of the United States? That's just outrageous," DeLay told Fox News Radio on Tuesday. "And not only that, but he said in session that he does his own research on the Internet? That is just incredibly outrageous."
Doing research on the Internet can be tricky, especially given some of the wacky stuff that can appear in Wikipedia entries. But the mere fact of doing Internet research being outrageous? Yes, yes, the wing-nuts of the fundamentalist religious right, America's version of the Taliban, would have you believe that if it isn't in the Bible, judges shouldn't be using it as a basis of decision-making. (Well, except for the parts where you show mercy to the poor, and make the rich fit through the eyes of needles... or something like that.)I feel sorry for Tom DeLay. Having worked as an exterminator for all those years in South Texas, the bug spray undoubtedly killed a few brain cells. And he is, of course, a product of the political machinery about which Molly Ivins wrote so brilliantly in Molly Ivins Can't Say That, Can She?To borrow a phrase from Molly: If Tom DeLay had any fewer brain cells, they'd have to water him twice a week. Of course, then Congress would demand a feeding tube be inserted... but that's another DeLay debacle, best left for ridicule later.In other Whack Job news, Wonkette's spies on the Border captured film of Sean Hannity as he toured the US-Mexico border with the "Minuteman Project." These self-appointed border patrol vigilantes -- who you just know would shoot them dag'nabbin' illegal immigrants if only they thought they could get away with it -- are a darling of the right-wing.
Of course we should keep out the immigrants... I mean, once we destroy Social Security, granny will have to do something to earn her keep. So why not let her work two or three of the jobs that some "illegal" has?Meanwhile, back on the Border... But soft! Do mine eyes deceive? Is that a neo-con Irishman hopping the fence?
